Capital City Curves Lady Gladiators will get a chance to defend their Maritime Senior Women's Football championship in two weeks time. Lady Gladiators advanced to the championship game scheduled Sunday, Aug. 12 at Rocky Stone Park in Moncton by virtue of a 46-6 hammering of Saint John Storm in yesterday's semifinal game at Mackenzie Field in Saint John. Moncton Vipers will provide the opposition in the finale after beating Halifax Xplosion 20-0 in the other semifinal Saturday in Moncton. Three players -- Kristina O'Brien, Heidi Erdle and Amanda Hennick -- each had a pair of touchdowns to pace the Lady Gladiators against Saint John. Hennick's first major came early in the game when she ran back a kickoff for the major after the Storm had opened the scoring. Adding a single major was Lindsay Anderson coming via a pass from QB Alex Black, who kicked one convert and ran in for another. Black also threw a TD pass to Hennick. Erdle, known more for her wrestling exploits, picked off an interception and ran it back for a major accounting for one of her two scores. The Lady Gladiators-Vipers matchup will start at 4 o'clock on Sup-Her Bowl Sunday. The Storm and Xplosion will meet in the third place game earlier at 1. |
