In women's play, the rain stopped long enough on Saturday for the Saint John Storm to dominate the Fredericton Lady Gladiators 36-0 at Millidgeville. The Storm started early with Lori Boyles' five-yard run finishing a drive that started with a fumble recovery by nose guard Sonja Clarke on Fredericton's 50-yard line Saint John added a 60-yard run from Tammy Saunders and a 60-yard pass-run play between Boyles and Michelle Young-Mather. Clarke caused another fumble to start the second half, resulting in an eight-yard TD run by quarterback Lisa Harlow. Rookie halfback Kendra Jones rounded out the scoring with a 14-yard run. Terri Shannon had four conversions. "We had an excellent game with our (offensive) line dominating the line of scrimmage and our defensive ends and linebackers shutting down the outside runs. This was a true team effort," said Storm coach Larry Harlow. In other women's action the Halifax Explosion came from behind at home to beat the Moncton Vipers 16-13. |
