Canada’s first incorporated city, Saint John, N.B. will play host to Canada’s first ever National Women’s Tackle Football Championships.

The Saint John STORM women’s tackle football team is playing host to the first ever 2008 Canadian Championships. Teams from as far away from Alberta have already been confirmed. Tournament organizers are looking for 8 teams or more from across Canada. Football New Brunswick and Football Canada support this initiative and are looking forward to this event.
The week long tournament is scheduled to take place July 28th – August 3rd in 2008. Along with the tournament, organizers are planning to hold a women’s coaching clinic and a football clinic for girls ages 13 to 16.

The Saint John Storm are entering their 4th season in the Maritime Women’s Football League. The Storm won the first two championships in 2004 and 2005. The team consists of female players from the age of 18 to 35 and play a 6 game season with 2 game playoffs. Full schedule is available on our website  www.leaguelineup.com/saintjohnstorm

While women’s tackle football is relatively new, it is fast growing, with the four team league in the Maritimes and a 3 team league in Alberta. Also there are plans to start a 14 to 17 year old league in 2007 in New Brunswick .
